The consultant will provide strategic and technical expertise to ensure that youth participation is meaningful, structured, and embedded into regional health initiatives and policy development processes.
Key Responsibilities
The Youth Engagement Consultant will play a central role in strengthening youth participation across UNICEF’s regional work. The consultant will design and support engagement mechanisms that ensure young people’s perspectives influence decision-making in child and adolescent health initiatives.
Key responsibilities include developing a comprehensive youth engagement strategy aligned with regional objectives, mapping youth networks and advisory structures across Europe, and supporting youth participation in consultations, regional dialogues, and events. The consultant will collaborate closely with UNICEF technical teams to integrate youth perspectives into policy tools and resources focused on child and adolescent health and mental well-being.
The role also involves advising on inclusive and ethical participation approaches, supporting partnerships with youth organizations and stakeholders, and contributing to the documentation of best practices in youth engagement. Strong coordination skills are required to ensure consistency across countries and partners while maintaining a youth-centered approach.
Required Qualifications and Experience
UNICEF is seeking candidates with proven expertise in youth participation and engagement. Applicants should possess a Master’s degree in communications, social sciences, international relations, development studies, or a related field. A minimum of five years of professional experience in youth engagement, volunteer management, or participatory programming is required.
Candidates should demonstrate experience working with youth-led organizations, advisory mechanisms, or community-based initiatives. Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as the role involves collaboration across diverse cultural and institutional contexts. Fluency in English is required, while knowledge of additional European languages is an advantage.
Experience related to public health, mental health promotion, or EU-level programmes will be considered a strong asset.
