UNIDO Is Hiring A Home-Based Consultant 2026

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is seeking qualified professionals for a home-based consultancy position as a National Technical Expert – Digital Single Window Systems for Free Economic Zones. This role presents an excellent opportunity for experts in digital governance, trade facilitation, and public sector digital transformation to contribute to a high-impact international development initiative while working remotely.

This consultancy supports UNIDO’s mission to promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development by strengthening digital infrastructure and improving the operational efficiency of Free Economic Zones (FEZs).


About the Role

The selected consultant will play a key technical role in supporting the design, assessment, and implementation of Digital Single Window systems tailored to Free Economic Zones. These systems aim to integrate multiple government services into a single digital platform, enabling businesses to complete administrative procedures efficiently and transparently.

The assignment is home-based, allowing flexibility while collaborating with national institutions, government agencies, and international experts. Limited mission travel may be required depending on project needs.


Key Responsibilities

The National Technical Expert will be responsible for providing specialized technical and analytical support, including:

  • Conducting business process mapping and audits of existing administrative procedures within Free Economic Zones
  • Identifying bottlenecks through gap analysis and recommending digital solutions to improve efficiency
  • Supporting the development of functional and technical specifications for Digital Single Window platforms
  • Assessing IT infrastructure readiness, interoperability requirements, and cybersecurity considerations
  • Preparing technical documentation, analytical reports, and implementation inputs for stakeholders
  • Ensuring alignment with international best practices in digital trade facilitation and e-government systems

This role requires close coordination with public institutions to ensure that proposed digital solutions are practical, scalable, and sustainable.


Required Qualifications and Experience

Qualified candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • An advanced university degree in Information Systems, Digital Governance, Public Administration, Industrial Engineering, Trade Facilitation, or a related field
  • At least three years of professional experience in digital transformation, Single Window systems, or public sector ICT projects
  • Proven expertise in business process re-engineering, system integration, or e-government solutions
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and technical writing skills
  • Excellent command of English, with knowledge of additional UN languages considered an advantage

National expertise and familiarity with local institutional and regulatory frameworks are highly desirable for this consultancy.
