About UNICEF and the Role
UNICEF operates in over 190 countries and territories, delivering lifesaving programmes in health, education, nutrition, child protection, and emergency response. The WASH Section plays a critical role in preventing disease, strengthening public health systems, and responding to crises where access to safe water and sanitation is limited. This consultancy supports a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and focuses on strengthening coordination, monitoring, and reporting across multiple regions.

Position Overview
The CDC CoAG Consultant will be engaged as an International Consultant on a home-based basis from January to December 2026. UNICEF offers a competitive monthly consultancy fee, estimated between USD 7,500 and USD 9,500, depending on experience and deliverables. The role is ideal for professionals with strong analytical, coordination, and strategic planning skills, particularly those familiar with donor-funded international programmes.

Key Responsibilities
The consultant will provide both strategic and professional operational support, including:

  • Coordinating technical and operational inputs across WASH, health, and emergency response workstreams.
  • Supporting planning, monitoring, and tracking of activities across regions and country offices.
  • Preparing high-quality narrative reports, progress updates, and analytical summaries aligned with donor requirements.
  • Assisting with financial tracking, workplan updates, and documentation of deliverables.
  • Facilitating coordination meetings, technical briefings, and partner consultations.
  • Maintaining programme dashboards, tracking tools, and risk registers to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Contributing to strategic planning, continuation proposals, and future funding opportunities.

The role requires precision, discretion, and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights that support decision-making at headquarters level.

Required Qualifications
Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate:

  • An advanced university degree in public health, WASH, environmental health, engineering, international development, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in humanitarian or development programming.
  • Proven experience coordinating or managing donor-funded projects, preferably within UN agencies or international NGOs.
  • Strong writing, editing, and analytical skills, with experience producing high-level technical and donor reports.
  • Excellent command of English; knowledge of additional UN languages is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with diverse, international teams.
  • Experience in emergency preparedness, outbreak response, or institutional partnerships is highly desirable.

Why This Consultancy Matters
This consultancy offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of public health, emergency response, and global partnerships within one of the world’s most influential humanitarian organizations. Consultants gain valuable headquarters-level experience while contributing to lifesaving WASH interventions that improve health outcomes for vulnerable children and communities worldwide.
