UNICEF Hiring National Social Behaviour Change Intern | 6-Month Internship – Lao PDR

UNICEF is offering an exciting opportunity for young professionals and students to gain practical experience through the National Social Behaviour Change (SBC) Internship based in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic. This six-month internship is designed for individuals who are passionate about public health communication, community engagement, and social development, and who want to contribute to programmes that improve the wellbeing of children, adolescents, and families.

Internship Overview

The National Social Behaviour Change Intern will support UNICEF’s Social and Behaviour Change programmes, which aim to influence positive behaviours and social norms at the community level. The role is primarily office-based in Vientiane, with opportunities to support field-related activities. Interns will work closely with UNICEF specialists and partners to help design, implement, and support communication initiatives that address critical social and health challenges.

UNICEF’s SBC work in Lao PDR focuses on improving public health outcomes, strengthening immunization demand, promoting adolescent wellbeing, encouraging positive parenting practices, preventing child marriage, and increasing trust in vaccines and health services. Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Social and Behaviour Change team, the intern will assist with a wide range of programme and communication activities. Responsibilities include supporting coordination with government institutions, civil society organizations, and community partners to strengthen outreach and engagement efforts.

The intern will help develop culturally appropriate communication materials in the Lao language, including key messages, short articles, and community-focused content. Additional tasks involve collecting stories and insights from programme activities, assisting with documentation, and supporting logistical arrangements for meetings, workshops, and community events. The role also includes providing general administrative and communication support to ensure smooth day-to-day programme operations.

Eligibility and Requirements

This internship is suitable for students or recent graduates in fields such as communications, public health, development studies, international relations, social sciences, or related disciplines. Applicants must be nationals of Lao PDR.

Candidates should demonstrate strong written and spoken communication skills in both Lao and English, along with the ability to work effectively in multicultural and collaborative environments. Cultural sensitivity, good organizational skills, and a proactive attitude are essential for success in this role. Experience working with community-based programmes or knowledge of ethnic minority languages is considered an advantage.

Estimated Monthly Salary

UNICEF internships typically include a monthly stipend intended to support basic living expenses during the internship period.

Estimated Monthly Stipend: USD 700 – USD 1,000
