Role Overview
The Quantitative Research Specialist will play a key role in coordinating and leading research activities under major education initiatives such as Data Must Speak (DMS), Women in Learning Leadership (WiLL), and Teachers for All. The role requires strong technical expertise in quantitative methods, experience managing multi-country research, and the ability to translate evidence into actionable insights for education policy and practice.
Working closely with UNICEF teams and partners, the specialist will support the design of new research, contribute to ongoing projects, and help strengthen evidence generation across the education sector. The position also involves ensuring research quality, supporting innovation, and communicating findings effectively through publications and policy briefs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, conduct, and analyze education research using rigorous quantitative approaches.
- Coordinate multi-country studies and ensure methodological consistency and quality.
- Provide technical support and guidance to UNICEF Country Offices undertaking research.
- Contribute to concept development, new studies, and innovative education research initiatives.
- Strengthen partnerships with research institutions, governments, and development organizations.
- Produce high-quality research outputs, including reports, briefs, and publications.
- Support UNICEF Innocenti’s leadership in global education evidence and thought leadership.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must have an Advanced University Degree in Education, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Data Science, or another relevant field. A minimum of five years of experience in education research, development, quantitative analysis, evidence generation, or related areas is required.
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in R, Python, or Stata, along with the ability to design and manage research projects. Strong organizational skills and experience with mixed-methods studies are highly valued. Fluency in English and proficient French are required.
Desirable Skills
Experience with geospatial analysis, GitHub, publication of research outputs, and partnerships with academic or development actors is considered an asset. Knowledge of an additional UN language is desirable, alongside experience working in international development or humanitarian contexts.
